Roblox Studio MCP servers compared in 2026

Roblox Studio MCP servers compared in 2026: Roblox's built-in server, the archived community servers and Synagy, with tools, install steps and honest limits.

Published 3 min readby the Synagy team

Short answer: a Roblox Studio MCP server lets your own AI agent read and change your open place. Roblox now ships a built-in server inside Studio with 26 tools, and for most people it is the right default. Synagy's server adds atomic batches, terrain and file sync, and is free, but it is a beta. Last checked: 2026-10-30.

We make Synagy, so we are not neutral. Each competitor fact links to its source. Where the official server is better, we say so.

Choose the built-in server if …

you want the vendor's own route, AI mesh generation or keyboard and mouse simulation

Choose Synagy if …

you want atomic batches with one undo step, terrain tools, file sync, or one server for Roblox, Unity and Blender

Choose a community fork if …

you need a read-only inspector and accept an archived upstream

Which Roblox Studio MCP server should you use?

Start with the built-in server. It needs no download, Roblox maintains it, and it has features that Synagy lacks, such as generate_mesh, generate_material and input simulation for UI tests. The docs also warn that connected clients can read and change your open places, so only connect agents you trust.

Add Synagy when you hit a limit. It is built for large edits and for work across engines:

  1. Batches: roblox_batch runs up to 1,000 operations as one undo step.
  2. Terrain: roblox_terrain has its own tool.
  3. File sync: roblox_sync and roblox_files pull and push scripts as files.
  4. Safe inserts: roblox_insert scans Creator Store models for backdoor scripts.

What do users complain about?

The same problems show up for every server. On the DevForum, people report disconnects every 5 to 10 minutes, trouble in huge places and a break with Claude Code 2.1.281 that has since been fixed. Several games open at once share a command queue, which can send code to the wrong place.

Synagy's engine_use lets you pick the window when two are open. We have not benchmarked reconnects after Play mode, so we make no claim there.

Where Synagy is the wrong pick

If you do not want an agent at all, the Synagy plugin has its own window; see how to make a Roblox game without coding. Setup for your own agent is on synagy.org/mcp.

FAQ

Does Roblox Studio have a built-in MCP server?

Yes. Enable it under Assistant, Manage MCP Servers. It offers 26 tools for scripts, generation, playtests, screenshots and input simulation, and it talks to a local agent over stdio. Roblox archived its older open-source server in April 2026.

Is the Roblox Studio MCP server free?

The built-in server is part of Studio and has no separate fee, although some generation tools have rolling limits, such as 50 procedural models per 24 hours. Synagy's server is free too; its own cloud window uses the credits of your Synagy account.

Can I use Synagy and the built-in server together?

They are separate servers, so an agent can load both. Use the built-in one for mesh generation and input tests, and Synagy for batches, terrain and file sync. Check that both are not editing the same script at once.

Does Synagy work without an AI agent?

Yes. The Synagy plugin has a window inside Studio that plans a game with a price in credits, writes Luau and playtests it. Your own agent is optional.

Try it yourself. Synagy builds games and Minecraft mods from plain words, free to start. See how it works or read more on the blog.
